The CVARC Mercersburg Parade Project


Cumberland Valley Amateur Radio Club will again be participating in the Mercersburg Parade event. We need an advocate for this project--will it be you?

Mercersburg Parade Information


The Mercersburg Parade will be held on Monday, 29-OCT-2007.

Official information about the parade is found on their Mercersburg Area Chamber of Commerce web site.

Note that the time listed on the website is the actual start of the parade; communicators will need to be in place at 6:00 pm as that is when the primary street through Mercersburg is shut down and other pre-parade events take place.

Below is information about CVARC's communications plans for this event.

 

Preliminary communications plan


06-OCT-2007: Darrell N3QBI and Daniel KB3MUN have set forth the communication plan. It is largely the same as last year.

Meetings with Parade organizers


??-OCT-2007: Next planned parade organizer meeting.

01-OCT-2007: Daniel KB3MUN was unable to attend this meeting of the parade organizers.

10-SEP-2007: Daniel KB3MUN attended the parade planning meeting. Of the issues discussed pertainant to our role as communicators was: the necessity of easily finding the parade official we are to team with; the importance of co-locating a ham and a fire police; the desirability of having reflective vests for the planners, communicators, and the volunteer traffic directors; and the parade route map showing the locations where communicators are desired by the planners.

??-AUG-2007: Daniel KB3MUN was unable to attend this first meeting of the parade organizers.

A copy of the last year's map was marked up, and the names of a couple of the parade officials at the stations given.

 

Requests for assistance


23-SEP-2007: In addition to announcements in the club's September newsletter, and on the Sunday evening net, letters requesting assistance from individuals and clubs that have helped with CVARC with this event in the past have been mailed. In addition to individuals, the following clubs have been invited:
  • Antietam Radio Association,
  • Amateur Radio Club of Trinity,
  • Keystone Radio Amateurs of Pa,
  • Mid Atlantic DX and Repeater Association, and
  • South Mountain Repeater Association.
